Rey being the best
random thought on the part I just read – when the water force bond scene happens, afterwards it’s written that Kylo felt something strange – and that’s when he looked down to see water on his gloves.
Felt the water droplets resting on your glove hmm?
and then he specifically clenched his fists to hide it from his sight.
Hey! Kind of – I’d rather not post full cuts of all the book scenes just out of respect for the author, but I’ll absolutely do a list of all the bits and notations I have for them specifically. I’m noting them as I read. =)
However I’m 100% positive someone will put all the bits into a post a la TFA novelization, I’d just rather not do it yet out of respect. I understand not everyone can own a copy, but I’d rather wait until perhaps everyone has had a chance to at least get one from a library or a friend before I plaster it all =D
I’m only a third into the book but..some first thoughts
you guys, I’m really starting to believe this lost souls/reincarnation theory. I don’t think it’s anidala, but I do think that Rey and Kylo are clearly souls who have been reincarnated. there was a scene from Maz’s point of view where she talks about the eyes again in a very particular way and with the snippet from Last Shot with toddler Ben..I’m really buying into it.
they’re really really playing up the duplicitousness of rey being good at fixing broken things
and ALSO of a belief in fate
kylo very much felt betrayed by his parents, and is bitter and angry – but when he realizes his mother is worried for him and wants him home, the anger dissipates and he decides not to fire. all the boy wants is for someone to tell him he can come back, that they really do love him. ugh. he’s also furious that he was caught off guard and he 100% thinks leia is dead because after that happened he wanted to blow the raddus up even more whereas before he heldoff for her. remains to be seen, but given the coma etc. I still am certain he didn’t/doesn’t know she’s alive even after crait. We’ll see though.
they’re playing up a lot the idea that Rey was very much intended to be on ahch-to, her scene where she sees the books talks about it a lot – Luke senses it a little as well.
speaking of luke, he is a wildly snarky crabby old man and it’s hilarious
finn is hyper focused on doing everything for rey, and rose is really annoyed about it and it’s hilarious. I love Rose.
Also there’s the lovely scene of Poe and Finn where Finn realizes the jacket had been sewn ‘by someone with little skill’ and Poe was like ‘in my defense there’s a war going on’. It was really cute, also Finn feeling supremely guilty that he isn’t who Poe thinks he is. Dammit Finn.
Poe 100% thought Leia was gonna put him in command instead of Holdo, I definitely got that vibe from the movie but it was spelled out in the book.
no sign of the fish nuns yet, but almost to the first force bond scene. can’t wait.
Kylo definitely doesn’t like Snoke, at least he’s 50% done with him in the scene earlier. ‘he was in no mood’ is a good statement that sums it up lol – also Snoke called his murder of Han ‘petulance not strength’ which is…harsh. So evven though he killed his father, it’s not good enough.
Also Snoke 100% was manipulating him and stoking his desperation to prove himself or the confict in him, there was a sly smirk written about as Kylo stalked off. Still clear to me that Snoke knows of the bond and is manipulating Kylo to lure Rey in with his vulnerability. His downfall, indeed.
before Kylo went to shoot as his mother, he spared a moment to think about how they would always talk about him secretly, how they spoke of him not as their son but as a monster – and indeed confirmed that he feels they sent him off as punishment and to a worse fate (with Luke).
Also again – when in the womb, Leia felt a bright bright light from Ben, but with ‘threads of shadow’ – Luke told her not to worry, a la ‘powerful light, powerful dark’
Luke is doing a LOT of musings about his past but of particular note is that he keeps talking about Obi-Wan and calling him Ben. Ben ben ben is said a LOT, which I realize is the name he knows but I feel it’s intentional he uses it so much because of Kylo.
hux is a smarmy git who definitely is gonna stage a coup cause boy wants that supreme leader title. calls Kylo Snoke’s creature which I found interesting language.
anyway, probably a lot more but I’m just spit balling here before I dive back in!

I’m struggling to not freak out here but it’s like WE KNEW THIS WE GOD – WE KNEW THIS GOD HAVE MERCY.
