So supposedly JJ is looking for a supporting role actress. How do you feel about the influx of new characters for the final episode of the Skywalker Saga? My only issue would be I hope they don’t take anything away from our main two protagonists.

I’m not worried about it. none of them will be main characters and there’s lots of vacant screentime opened up by people who won’t be in IX at all or as much. looking at the screentime breakdown we have:

Luke (23:45) – Luke won’t get nearly this much time in IX. I’m guessing he’ll have about 5-10 minutes tops which leaves at least 13-18 free minutes

Leia (9:15) – Leia’s screentime will also be cut probably in half or more by necessity of using recycled footage

Snoke (5:30)

Holdo (5:15)

DJ (4:30)

Phasma (1:50)

Paige (1:30)

Tallie (1:30)

I think we have a poor concept of screentime overall. doesn’t it feel like Holdo and DJ had waaaaay more than 5 minutes of screentime? so 5 minutes = a fairly significant minor role, which is what all these new characters are going to be. Maz only had one minute of screentime in TLJ and yet Lupita was still listed fairly high up in the credits.

all these newly cast people will probably have around 5 minutes each and then there’s still a huge amount of screentime to be distributed between our 5 leads (and I’m guessing there will probably be only 2 main story threads in IX instead of the 3 we got in TLJ, with characters not being separated as much)
